American's 400 Astrojet Designed for the Business Traveler

Designed for the Business Traveler
In March 1966 American introduced their BAC 1-11 Astrojet "400" which would, that year, eventually replace the carrier's last piston planes making American all jet-powered. Special Business traveler Express services at the time included a Limosine to and from the airport, or helicopter/air taxi where available, no boarding pass required, "dictaphones and typewriters" and even "Astrovision"-live television before take-off on some transcontinental flights. The "400" was popular because of it's silent power, fast turn time, on ground auxiliary power to maintain air-conditioning, and low seating capacity of only 69 passengers which offered more leg room in three and two seating.Clink on Image for a closer look!
